GETTING READY FOR SPRING???

YES, I AM GEARING UP FOR THE OPENING OF LIZZIESRAGGS PRIMITIVES THIS SPRING.  I HAVE ALREADY STARTED MAKING NEW DOLLS AND AM HEADING FOR A TRADE SHOW IN PA. SOON.  HAVEN`T BEEN TO A TRADE SHOW THERE SINCE THE  80`S WHEN MY SISTER-IN-LAW AND I OPENED A VERY TINY SHOP CALLED "THE PINK COTTAGE".   YES, IT WAS PINK!  ACTUALLY IT FIT ONTO A TRAILER WHICH WE USED TO GET IT FROM POINT A TO POINT B.  THE DAY WE OPENED OUR DOORS TO THE PUBLIC , OUTSIDE OUR SHOP SAT A PINK 55 FORD CROWN VICTORIA.  WHAT A COINCIDENCE!!  SINCE OUR SHOP WAS LOCATED ON PROPERTY BESIDE A FROZEN ICE CREAM BLG. EVERYONE OR SHOULD I SAY A FEW PEOPLE THOUGHT IT WAS THEIR NEW BATHROOM FACILITY.  NEEDLESS TO SAY WHEN THEY CAME TO PEEK INSIDE THEY INSTANTLY KNEW IT WASN`T.  WE RAN THE SHOP FOR THREE YEARS.  I NOW HAVE A QUAINT PRIM SHOP  IN PART OF OUR SHED WHICH IS ATTACHED TO OUR 160 YEAR OLD HOME.  IT IS UNIQUE FOR WE CARRY A SELECTION OF  ONE OF A KIND ITEMS WHICH WE MAKE.  WE ALSO HAVE LOCAL CRAFTERS MAKING SPECIALIZED PRIMS FOR OUR SHOP.  WE PLAN TO RE-OPEN IN MAY.  I WILL BE ADDING MORE ABOUT THE OPENING WHEN TIME GET CLOSER.  HERE I AM THINKING SPRING WHEN WE AREN`T YET INTO FEB.  HERE IN MAINE WINTER CAN GO INTO APRIL.  UGH!!   ONE LAST MENTION .  MY HUBBY AND I SAW THREE ROBINS ON OUR APPLE TREES ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO AND THEN MORE RECENTLY WE SAW A FLOCK OF THEM.  THEY SAY EARY BIRDS GET THE WORMS BUT THESE ROBINS ARE A BIT EARLY DON`T YOU THINK?.   TALK NEXT TIME.  LIZZIE FROM LIZZIESRAGGS

CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING SAGA

Well last night the lighting went off quite well. We had around 50 + people gathered to see the tree lit. After a countdown from 10-1 the tree was bright with red-white and blue lights. Everybody stood around eating cookies and drinking hot chocolate and talking to their friends and neighbors. Thought everything was warm and wonderful until coming home around 10:00 we noticed the tree was dark and still. OH NO! Not this quick. So today my hubby and I went up to investigate the problem and found out the timer to the tree was set backwards, meaning it went off 7:00 at night and on again at 3:00 in the morning. Suppose to be on at 3:00 in the afternoon and off again at 7:00 in the morning. We need help changing this for the timer is inside the maintenance blg. and they are closed until tomorrow. This is just the beginning of the Christmas Tree Lighting`s next four weeks. It seems we should just be able to turn those lights on and not have to do anything else until time to unplug the plug BUT for some reason or reasons it always is otherwise. Oh well it is pretty!

SNOW IN MAINE

We have a good 12-14 inches of new fallen heavy snow. It is quite exciting to see the first snowfall but maybe not in October. (lol) My mother always said the day we get our first snowfall where you can see your tracks is how many snow storms we will get. WELL----does that mean 29-30 storms for our state of Maine? I look at it this way since we have to go through the winter months we might as well have the snow to go with it plus its good for us for we have a plowing business. It also good for other businesses in our northern state. I want to share with you a few pictues of our storm. Our deck. This is a lilac bush from our bedroom window. My Husband took this picture outside in our backyard. A Partridge hunkering from the storm in our apple tree. He has been hunkering there throughout this storm. "A Partridge in an Apple Tree..Partridge puffed up on our apple tree in our backyard.

OUR OUTDOOR DECK

This is an overall view of our deck. We put this in about two years ago. Long overdue but grateful we have it now. Enjoy eating and just sitting outside and enjoying the birds and the beauty of our backyard. We are blessed.

Old andirondack chairs and table on opposite side of deck.

Found this old maple wood table along side of road covered with old tires forsale. Set in the rain for a couple weeks before I stopped and asked if he wanted to sell the table. He said quickly YES! I was excited for it was in good shape . Offered him 30.00 and he wanted 35. I said yes for I knew it was worth much more then that. Brought it home , sanded and gave it a bri-wax stain. Came out nicely. Love OLD!

KITCHEN-We built this island and bench from an existing dry sink. We added leftover l8" boards for the top and they lift up so we can use the storage underneath. I distressed and stenciled a pineapple on the middle board.

An overall view of our primitive kitchen. We just love the new room added in the background. It serves so much more purposes and has added so much more room when our family of 24 gets together. I`m proud of my husband and all he did on the new room and also his ideas. He was GREAT!

This is an attempt at a Mural I always wanted to try and do. It is from a Carol Endres Folk Art Collection. I certaintly didn`t paint it as good as she can but I love her art and made an attempt. It was fun. This mural is on a wall in my kitchen.

OUR 1860 FARMHOUSE

OUR 1860 FARMHOUSE
Its hard to take a picture of a hallway so this is somewhat like its looks. The walls are a darker mustard sponge painting that I did. We removed old paint on the banister and stairtreds. What a job that was! The banister is all handcarved and quite beautiful.

MY 1860 FARMHOUSE

MY 1860 FARMHOUSE
This is an extension of our kitchen. A new room added a couple of years ago.

MY 1860 FARMHOUSE

MY 1860 FARMHOUSE
This is in the new room we added on to the Kitchen. We left this wall partly original as you can see from the top of the photo. I painted the bottom half a pewter color and also painted the picture you see. It was an opening into the attached shed and we decided to leave it like a window as it was , adding the old shutters that came with the house and putting a shelf partly across the wall above it. You can see my sign that is waiting for its home over the doors of my new shop we are working on to be opened this Fall.

Mallard ducks in our backyard!
These Mallard Ducks came into our backyard to eat leftover deer food. The male duck seemed to be watching for danger while his mate pecked away enjoying her feast. When he felt there was no danger he joined in. When they decided they had enough to eat they headed back to the stream that runs in the back of our property and swam back up stream. They have been back several times this spring. We also have Turkeys coming through but that is not unusual.

Its hard to believe that it is already the middle of February. Time has a way of disappearing like a blink of the eye! I guess the older you get the faster it goes. Since we are still in winter lets have some more snow! Our snow around Maine is going very fast. Since we do snowmobile some and have a camp further north in Maine where usually snowmobiling is great we are all praying for those white flakes. Vacation week is the time we go with our grandkids and their parents. We have such a great time. In the meantime I am making new things for my website lizziesraggs and thinking Spring creations. Hard to get in that mood but I`m trying. Hope to hear from you and share what your all doing to get through this season.
